guru mountain design
This case study is for a retail store, in a small mountain town, Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The goal is to come up with creative ways to set this retail store apart. Steamboat is known for its “rustic” high-class mountain feel, and the shopping there reflects that. To reach our goal we need to establish a target market and develop a brand identity.
Target Market – The target market, in this case, would be younger residents and tourists that did not identify with the “rustic high-class mountain feel” and wanted something different, hip, modern. People that enjoyed the outdoors, and wanted to look good doing it.
Brand Identity – The identity need to be a reflection of both the place, Steamboat, and the target market. It needed to incorporate the mountains, the not so unique but all the same identity of Steamboat Springs, but it needed its own unique modern twist. We developed a sarcastic, backward (literally and metaphorically) brand identity that mixed New York street style with the outdoor mountain lifestyle. The name, Guru Mountain Design, poking fun at knowing everything about the mountains. The logo, a simplistic modern mountain design made to look like a G. The website, sleek design, highlighting the brand and lifestyle that goes with it. Marketing materials like tags, bags, and business cards to keep the brand identity consistent and recognizable.
